77. Half Love: Stadium Arcadium

Yeah this album is great for the funk. The guitaristry is spot on (cf last post). Great tracks:

  • Hump de Bump
  • She's Only 18
  • Slow Cheetah
  • Torture Me
  • Desecration Smile
  • Tell Me Baby (but even this, the singing is gash, but listen to the music!!)

Basically, when Kiedis isn't rapping old-school Chillis style his voice starts to sound ridiculously middle-aged and womanly (in my opinion), like something off By The Way (perhaps the abominable Universally Speaking), and i can't settle for this. There's far to much filler here i think, but there's also some real fucking killer too. Really beautiful in places ("Slow Cheetah"), but once you get to the end of the first disc you're thinking "Can i really sit through another hour of this even if there are some special nuggets (yes yes nugget porn). Worth a tenner for sure though, and I'm positive it will grow on me when it starts getting consistently sunny..

Anyone else heard/got it?

wears its influences on its sleeve:
James Brown, Jane's Addiction, Jimi Hendrix, (good) ska

as ever, the lyrics are decent

Yeah - I got that feeling at the end but I stuck with it and found some gems on cd2. Death of a Martian has some lovely guitar but I don't know about the speaking bit towards the end.

yeah yeah don't get me wrong i think the second side could be as good as the first, just a mission to listen to 2 hours of chillis in a row

Aye Aye fishy pie.....Oh! There's a guy at work who loves Tool! He has lovely long hair..Just trying to get other "corporate people" to let us play it at work.

that is splendid, is he a cool guy or a nerd? Tool fans tend to fall into one of the two camps. Seriously though, no generealisations, get us a picture by tonight and i'll be well impressed..

He's a bit nerdish...But I think he's just shy at work. He got called a "Long-haired Hippie" yesterday (eee! Never heard that before!) Poor shy guy...I will lure him for a photo during a dicussion about Slipknot at some point.
